Title: scan fails with wccp enabled router
Post by: pdinapoli on November 16, 2009, 04:28:54 PM
trying to scan a subnet at one of my remote sites.  router at that location is configured for WCCP redirection protocol.

with WCCP enabled - Newt Pro scan fails with errror \"remote pipes not created\"

turn off WCCP protocol on the Cisco router at that site - scan completes.  turn back on - scan fails.  the initial discovery finds the workstations, but does not get the details.

cant find any information about TCP ports Newt Pro uses...but sniffer trace reveals that Newt is making a connection to each machine on TCP 445 (MS CIFS port)

anyone have any ideas how the actual tcp thread should work?

Hi, I can help you with this.

Newt currently requires normal Windows file sharing access and the ability to read & write to the ADMIN$ share.  If you can get to the ADMIN$ share, you should be able to scan since I believe it uses port 445.  It\'s also possible you might need to open up ports 135-139, depending on how things are set up.  Newt has far less stringent requirements than most of our competitors.

Please let me know if this helps.
