Title: Error 64 on local machine
Post by: krow1752 on April 20, 2012, 01:48:19 PM
When trying to scan my local machine (Win7 Pro 32 bit, firewall off, logged in as Administrator) the following error occurs: (Error 64: The specified network name is no longer available.)  I can access it through Windows Explorer or IE using my Machine Name.  How can I get past this.  I am using Newt Pro v2.5, build 223, licensed for 75 nodes.

Hi there.  This is error is extremely rare.  We've only received 1 report of it in the past.  Could you possibly try disabling the Windows Firewall (if enabled) and disabling your anti-virus temporarily, just to see if one of them is the culprit?

Also, is this Win7 PC on a domain or on a workgroup?

One other user who had this issue was on XP, but they had a corrupt network adapter installation.  What helped there was for them to install the adapter in Device Manager and reinstall it, but I doubt that's the case here.

In the next version we're looking to change the way the local PC is scanned.  Right now for simplicity's sake, it's just treated like any other remote PC.

Thank you, my Kaspersky antivirus was the issue.  I have added newtpro as a safe program and the scan works.

Excellent.  The next major version will definitely fix this issue so you wouldn't need to add NEWT as safe in order to scan your local PC for some of these anti-virus programs.
