Can you scan for specific software only?

Is there some way to scan just for specific software using Newt 2.0 professional?  Or is this only possible through an Access query after the scan?

Hello Marianne.  Yes, you can scan just for Software and the scan will also be faster.  You could also use queries in Access after the fact, but if you\'re wanting to perform a new scan and only need Software, it may be best not to scan unnecessary items.

Just visit Scan Properties, select None (bottom of window) and then click on Software in the upper right-hand corner under Extended Info.  You can also click on a few other items you may also need.

Scanning for just one item does not clear results for non-selected items, only their columns are hidden.

Thank you - but, say I was just looking for users that had WordPerfect installed - is there a way to just scan for that particular piece of software, rather than go through all the software?

Thanks alot~~

Oh, I\'m very sorry, I misread your post.

NEWT has a rudimentary search/filter feature which we intend on improving on greatly later this year.  Just select the Software tab and choose \"Search & Filter\", then type in part of the name you want to see and click \"Filter Include\".  To unfilter the list, click the Cancel button.

This works fine if you just want to see all WordPerfect\'s, etc.  But if you needed more detailed filtering such as wanting to view computers with WordPerfect but with only 512KB of RAM, you\'d need to use Access to perform a query/filter on the data.

You may also find the Itemization tool useful as well when a quick count is needed.  To use, just right-click in the column (not the header) you wish to count and select \"Itemize\" near the middle of the menu.  This will show counts of each piece of software you have, for example, if you were to right-click in the Software column under the Software tab.

We\'re also looking to add a software audit feature so you can easily see how many copies owned vs. how many are installed.  NEWT would then be able to alert you if more copies are installed than owned or how many are left.
