DEP Workaround
« on: December 15, 2005, 07:53:23 PM »
When installing on a Win 2k3 server, I am getting the following error that is preventing installation:

StatusbarX5.ocx
Unable to register the DLL/OCX; loadlibrary failed; code 998
invalid access to memory location.

Thanks in advance.

Hello.  We apologize profusely about this, to you, and others with the same problem.  This component has an issue with Win2K3 Server Server Pack 1 and may not work with future service packs either.  The author of this status bar component is out of business, but we are working on a replacement at this moment.

Is it possible to install and use NEWT on a non-W2K3 Server until then?

We hope you\'re able to bear with us while we make the transition.

It appears SP1 of W2K3 turns on DEP (Data Execution Prevention) and our software is currently incompatible with it, however we are working on correcting this issue to allow NEWT to work properly with DEP.  So at this time you must turn off DEP in 2003 SP1 for NEWT to run.

Please see the following screenshot for how the setting should be for NEWT Pro:

And please let us know if this allows you to run and install NEWT.

I tried the workaround but the directions were a little off.

Running Server 2k R2

You have to add the installer to the list after you selct the top radio button.

Thank you!  You can also try choosing \"Ignore\", then add the NEWTPro.exe to the DEP Exceptions list.

Of course machine configurations can vary.
